When reading Psalm 96, one line really stuck out to me. “Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.” The line says to tell of God’s salvation, not just once, not just at church, but day to day. The Psalm also tells us to declare his “marvelous works among all the peoples.” It made me think of how one should go about telling others about God. The most obvious way is to walk up to people and simply tell them about all the stories in the bible, and then continue doing that day to day.
However, this approach only serves to push your beliefs onto others and simultaneously push them away. Then I looked farther along in the Psalm and saw where it talks about “Honour and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary,” and then it became clear to me. In being called to tell others about God’s “marvellous works”, we are being called to tell them not just through word of mouth, but also by our actions.
We are called to be honorable and majestic, strong and beautiful. When we are honorable, even when others mistreat us and when we are strong even when we feel weak, we as the creations of God are showing his majesty and beauty. In being the best that we can be, we are telling others of God’s greatness every day.
We are called to praise God and allow his everlasting love to shine through us, proclaiming his glory to the world.
